Shea Moisture Beard Products

We noticed Shea Moisture beard products while walking through Target and Walmart. The price point was very affordable, under $10 for 3.3 oz of beard oil and the same for four ounces of beard balm. I wasn’t thrilled with the green plastic packaging, but I took a chance.

After researching Shea Moisture, I discovered they have an entire line of beauty products, including shampoo, conditioner, and multiple others.

The company’s head, Richelieu Dennis, took inspiration from his grandmother, Sofi Tucker, who sold shea butter, black soap, and other local beauty products in Sierra Leone. His mother carried the torch forward, selling the same products in Liberia, where Mr. Dennis was born.

He carried on the tradition by selling the same natural beauty products on the streets of Harlem. He transformed that into Shea Moisture, a tremendously successful enterprise.

Shea Moisture has established several female-owned, operated agricultural cooperatives in Ghana and Burkina Faso, where many ingredients are sourced. The cooperatives work within their communities to set up schools and create paths forward for their neighbors.

The company also sponsors and mentors local small business entrepreneurs with cash grants and other resources.

Beard Oil: Beard oils are a staple in many beard care routines. SheaMoisture’s beard oils are designed to nourish and hydrate the beard hair and the skin beneath it. These oils typically contain a blend of natural oils like argan oil, jojoba oil, and others that promote beard health and provide a pleasant scent. The primary ingredients in Shea Moisture’s beard oil are Grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, castor oil, and shea butter, along with coconut, argan, and jojoba oils.

Beard Balm: SheaMoisture’s beard balms are formulated to provide a light to medium hold while conditioning the beard. They often contain natural waxes and oils that help shape and style the beard, adding moisture and shine. Ingredients include castor oil and shea nut oil in the order listed on the label. Grape seed oil, candelilla wax, and coconut oil are the top five, and there are a few others, including maracuja (passion fruit oil).
