Jay is a retired attorney and administrative law judge who used to hear cases in the South Bronx and maintained his law practice in New York City for close to 40 years. After retiring to the Pacific Northwest in 2015, Jay authored two image-dense books of his photos and words about cannabis and his relationship with it. He also produced thousands of cannabis strain reviews and instructional videos on several YouTube channels, despite numerous ‘shadow bans’ and outright channel deletions based on the topics of the videos. His dedication to sharing knowledge is a significant aspect of what we learn about Jay Kitchen and his beard journey.

Jay has grown out his facial hair on and off over the years, mostly with disappointing results. In the spring of 2023, he stopped shaving immediately before prostate surgery, on doctor’s orders and hasn’t touched a razor since. While recuperating, he watched many YouTube videos about the care and feeding of beards. This journey is part of what defines Jay Kitchen and his beard. At this point, Jay decided to produce men’s grooming and general health and lifestyle videos so he wouldn’t have to worry about restrictions on his content.
